So when you think about basil, I'd guess pesto immediately comes to mind. But basil is so much more versatile than just that one condiment! And don't get me wrong, I love pesto! But I wanted to put some ideas out there for other ways to use up a big bunch of basil. Cause we are growing a lot of it!
First up, purple basil lemonade. This beautifully pink-purple drink is refreshing and herby, with anise-y notes from the basil.

For another way to incorporate basil into your next drink, try making basil simple syrup. This aromatic sweet syrup can be used to make some really fun cocktails, or even just to spice up your next glass of sparkling water!

Next – lemon basil sherbet! This super refreshing dessert is a mix between ice cream and sorbet, and full of tangy lemon and herbaceous basil.

If you don’t have an ice cream maker, try these basil watermelon popsicles. Hydrating and naturally sweet, these popsicles are a perfect treat for a summer afternoon.

Looking for a fun project? Basil salt is a great way to preserve a bounty of basil and also makes great gifts. This fragrant finishing salt is a great way to add some extra flavor onto a tomato salad, your morning eggs, or just on a buttered piece of toast.

Basil oil is another great preservation technique for your summer basil. By blanching the basil leaves quickly, you maintain the bright green color in the final product. Drizzle this over pizza, salads, or soups.

For a sauce that’s not pesto, try Green Goddess dressing. This creamy and herby dressing is of course perfect for salad, but also enjoy it as a dip. With your favorite crunchy veggies, roasted chicken, french fries – the possibilities are endless!
