Best way to store lettuce

This is our first week of Winter Share delivery. In this share, members will receive a wonderful head of lettuce from our friends at Bella Vita Farm.

Over the years, we've been asked many times what is the best way to store lettuce.

Charlotte is reading Jo Robinson's "Eating on the Wild Side", and thought these were some good tips to get the most nutrients from your lettuce, as well as keep it fresh for as long as possible:

1. Separate the head lettuce into individual leaves.

2. Soak leaves in as cold as you can get it cold water (10 minutes).

3. Dry.

4. Place leaves in a resealable plastic bag. Use a needle to poke 10-20 holes in the bag.

5. Press out the air, seal bag, and store in your refrigerator crisper drawer.
